Kenyan Election Update, By Benjamin Thompson/Nairobi

§         HUNDREDS DIED LAST NIGHT.

§         MILITARY MAY TAKE OVER.

§         ALL MEDIA EXCEPT KBC MONITORED BY MANY POLICE, INSIDE AND OUTSIDE.

§         PEOPLE ARE BEING KILLED IN KISUMU BY POLICE

§         VIOLENCE SPREADS FROM ALL FIVE MAJOR TOWNS IN KENYA TO SMALLER TOWNS, TARGETING KIKUYUS AND THEIR BUSINESSES

30 minutes ago there were announcements in the Radio in Kenya saying that Police would clamp down ruthlessly on anyone attending the rally at Uhuru Park called by O.D.M. to declare Raila  Odinga as the 'People's President'.

The 'Government' has also denied that they have arrested Raila and they say they don't know the whereabouts of the O.D.M. Pentagon members and other leading members?

James Orengo, Anyang Nyongo, Henry Kosgei and Musa Sirma who were said to  have been arrested are now, according to the government, free after being ‘questioned’.
Five  minutes ago the government changed tune on the rally at Uhuru Park 'kindly requesting' instead of warning Kenyans from attending. The tone-down apparently has been due to the fact that Raila Odinga is now under military  protection having been picked up by them from Police custody. There seems to be an uprising and the Military are said to be contemplating having Raila installed as the new President of Kenya in a full Military Ceremony by a  large section of the Army, Navy and Air Force led mainly by Kalenjin, Luo, Luhyia, Somali and Brigadiers from the Coast Province. The Police have apparently been told not to attempt to stop the ceremony. Things are now  getting really thick and Kibaki and his Kikuyu cohorts may soon find themselves facing an alternative people's government.

Other news have it that the ODM's Pentagon which met whole day today have  resorted to the use of "Mass Action" on Thursday, in which there will be country-wide rally in condemnation of Kibaki's "civil coup". However, this will only happen if the Military takes no action until that time.
