USCIS Lowers Processing Projector for Naturalization Applications as More People Apply for Citizenship, By Oluwaseyi Oduyela/Washington, DC Individuals who filed for US citizenship during the summer of 2007 can now anticipate an average of processing time of 14-16 months for their applications. Mr. Emilio Gonzalez gave this assurance on the Capitol Hill while addressing the US House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations on Tuesday, March 11. According to Mr. Gonzalez, the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) received approximately 1.4 million naturalization applications in the months of June and July of 2007 alone; representing an increase of nearly 350 percent compared to the same period in 2006. According to him, in addressing the significant increase in naturalization cases, and the unprecedented increase in all immigration applications and petitions, the professionalism and hard work of nearly 17,000 dedicated employees and contractors have been evident. “I am proud of our accomplishments, “he said. He added that the USCIS will continue to improve while maintaining its commitments to the integrity of the immigration process and national security requirements. |
